Austin's Pennybacker Bridge (more popularly known as the 360 Bridge) is one of my favorite pieces of Texan architecture. Nestled in the hill country, it reaches over the Colorado River and also provides a perfect vantage point of Downtown Austin's sparkling skycrapers. The elegantly designed bridge melds together a set of sweeping curves and evenly spaced crossbars with support beams that extend down at 90-degree angles to hold up the highway. The crimson-colored steel contrasts beautifully against the sky, especially on clear, cloudless days. For this piece, my goal was to isolate the often overlooked minimalism of the bridge, focusing attention on the sleek lines and curves of the bridge.
